SenseAnywhere Monitoring System for the Transportation of Medicines
Temperature monitoring for pharmacy deliveries and medicine transportation
Drug deliveries to patients can vary: via a bicycle courier, by car or on foot. Regardless of whether the recipient is a hospital pharmacy, a nursing home or a private household, the pharmacy is responsible for the medicines during transportation - i.e. also for ensuring that the quality of the preparations is not impaired by temperature fluctuations during this time, for example.
This is described in §17, 2a of the Pharmacy Operating Regulations:
"... the pharmacy manager must ensure that 1. the medicinal product is packaged, transported and delivered in such a way that its quality and efficacy are maintained".
This is because the quality of medicines is the joint responsibility of everyone, from manufacture to delivery to the consumer. The person responsible must check these temperatures and prove compliance with the requirements with a temperature log.
Case study of seamless temperature monitoring
The pharmacy of Klinikum Dahme-Spreewald GmbH at the Spreewaldklinik site ensures that the right medicines are available on time, in the right quantity, in perfect quality and in the right place. The clinic pharmacy supplies hospitals and emergency services, which includes a large number of different specialties.
The challenge: Proof of transport temperature
Most medicines must be stored and transported in one of the following temperature ranges: at room temperature (15 °C to 25 °C or 30 °C), at refrigerator temperature (2 °C to 8 °C) or deep-frozen (-18 °C or colder).
Compliance with the temperature ranges of eleven refrigerators and eighteen other room temperatures must be constantly monitored and regularly documented. The same applies to pharmacy deliveries to hospitals and emergency services.
The solution: central temperature monitoring for storage and transportation
The SenseAnywhere system offers a solution that enables data from all measuring points to be recorded centrally and alerts to be issued, eliminating the work involved in keeping written records. During the transportation of medicines, a SenseAnywhere measurement module records the temperatures and connects to the central monitoring system as soon as the courier returns from delivery.
What does the process for the safe transportation of medicines with an AiroSensor look like?
Let us show you an example of how our data loggers can be easily used by doctors, transporters and laboratories:
The medicines are taken from their refrigerated environment and placed in a transport box that is already at the desired temperature level. The transport box or cool box must remain within a certain temperature range. A SenseAnywhere AiroSensor (data logger) inside the box is activated, records the temperature during transportation and sends the measured data to the SenseAnywhere cloud platform in real time. The alarm is active so that a notification is sent if the measurements are outside the limits during transportation.
As soon as the medicine reaches the consumer, the messenger deactivates the alarm function. When the data logger is activated or deactivated, it automatically attempts to connect to the cloud platform. When the data logger establishes a connection with the mobile AccessPoint in the transport vehicle or the AccessPoint in the pharmacy, a success message ("trip end ok") or error message ("trip end not ok") appears on the end device used (computer, smartphone or tablet). It can be seen immediately whether and when the desired temperature range was exceeded or not reached during transportation.
Test our system for pharmacy deliveries free of charge!
Test the demo kit free of charge and without obligation within one week. Take your time and test the advantages and possibilities that SenseAnywhere offers you. Directly on your premises, with your conditions and your data. Measure the temperatures in your pharmacy, trigger alarms, create documentation and familiarize yourself with the system.
The demo kit contains two data loggers, an access point and everything you need to commission the system on site and record your own temperature and humidity data.
