Liquid baths with maximum temperature uniformity
Our Kambic calibration baths are ideal for calibrating temperature sensors, temperature transmitters or even complete temperature systems in calibration laboratories. They enable the simultaneous calibration of several systems and offer the advantage that sensors of all shapes and sizes can be calibrated. The exceptional temperature stability and precise temperature distribution over the entire bath volume ensures that sensors and references are always exposed to a uniform temperature.
Homogeneity and stability in the mK range at "real" -90 °C to +250 °C
Our Kambic liquid baths are characterized by highly stable temperature control and a unique temperature uniformity of better than ±0.007 °C over the entire bath volume. Depending on the temperature range, Kambic calibration baths are equipped with different cooling systems: from cooling with tap water to integrated refrigeration compressors and multi-stage cascade compressors for models with extremely low temperatures. The ultra-stable laboratory calibration baths are also available as deep well as micro calibration baths.

What is a calibration bath?
A calibration bath is a machine equipped with a container (bath) that allows a filled liquid to be regulated to a specified temperature with high precision using heating, cooling and stirring systems. Temperature sensors, temperature probes or temperature transmitters are then calibrated in this temperature control liquid, i.e. compared with a temperature standard.
The preset temperature should be very close to the actual temperature of the bath liquid; even more important, however, is the stability of the temperature over time and the homogeneity of the temperature over the entire bath volume.
Compared to calibration methods using air, the calibration bath has the advantage that the heat transfer through the liquid is faster. In addition, more precise temperature control is possible. Stabilities and homogeneities of up to ±0.005 K are possible in calibration baths in temperature ranges from approx. -100 °C to +300 °C. This makes them the ideal source for calibrating high-precision temperature sensors, especially if they have special shapes and therefore cannot be calibrated in block calibrators.
Common sizes for calibration baths are in the volume range between 1 and 60 liters. Special, temperature-stable silicone oils are used as bath fluids, particularly in the high temperature range. High-purity alcohol is used in the lower temperature ranges.
Selection criteria for a temperature calibrator
If you need to calibrate industrial temperature sensors such as RTDs, thermistors, bimetal thermometers or glass thermometers, you need a reliable temperature source to verify their accuracy. A liquid-based calibration bath offers an excellent combination of stability, uniformity and value for money for the most demanding calibration applications.
Typical calibrators offer stability of approximately ±0.5 °C over a temperature range of -25 to 650 °C. The temperature uniformity, which is important for comparing sensors, is typically ±0.05 °C. These uncertainties therefore fit well with the measurement uncertainties achieved by industrial temperature sensors.
If you require an extended temperature range, maximum stability and precision, our calibration baths are suitable. Compared to most calibrators, Kambic calibration baths are characterized by a much better temperature stability of up to ±0.001 °C over a temperature range of -90 °C to +250 °C. The temperature uniformity in the liquid bath, which is important for comparing sensors, is ±0.007 °C.
When selecting calibrators for your industrial sensors, you should consider the following criteria:
- Temperature range
- Accuracy and stability
- Flexibility of use and immersion depth of the sensor
- portability
- Throughput
